The nice people at Vers create these attractive, functional Bamboo iPhone and iPod Cases while considering the environmental impact of said items. We appreciate the careful consideration of the effect of mass production on our environment and the great steps that Vers has taken to make a difference for today’s Daily Guff.
You may remember these too cool cases from back in October when we first carried them – we got an overwhelming response that you wanted to have more funcationality from your case with your iTouch and iPhone. Well, Vers must have heard a lot of that too because now they’re offering new styling on the cases that allows you to access full functionality and ultimate protection.
Their mission states:
Without a doubt, the creation of any mass-produced product requires the use of resources and energy to manufacture, transport and manage throughout their useful lives – which resources, how much energy and the length of a ‘useful life’ are where big differences can be made to reduce the total impact that a product makes on the world. Could you craft a more beautiful, better sounding system with LESS impact to the environment at the same time? We thought so, and it’s been the driving passion behind Vers from day one – to be better in every way imaginable.
The company also partners with the Arbor Day Foundation to replant for each tree they take! Bamboo grows faster than any other species, reaches a harvestable height in as little as 3 months, and produces 35% more oxygen per acre than trees – amazing stuff! The bamboo grass for these awesome cases are harvested by hand so they require significantly less energy (energy = CO2). Believe it or not, bamboo is harder and more dimensionally stable that Oak, with strength characteristics equal to steel! There isn’t a better, more eco-friendly way for you to protect your precious iPhone.
We think this a great option for a iPod case that will protect it for sure! These make great gifts (especially for those hard to buy for guys). Get one for you iPhone, iTouch, iPod Classic, or iPod Nano on the Daily Guff: http://guffly.com
As part of our latest Guffly Love Spreading promotion we distributed lucky bamboo stalks in plastic cups. People were very concerned about the eco-friendliness of these cups. Rest assured, we walk the walk.

Canister sets aren’t very exciting, but do these kitchen canisters stand out?
Food storage containers, canisters, and kitchen jars are great for the storage of frequently used grains, flour, sugar, or tea. We like these but think that there are probably some that come without the plastic lining and maybe produced fair trade. Do you like this product? Should we find something similar to feature on Guffly? Let us know but voting on a scale of 1-5, with 5 meaning you really like the product.
The Facts:
Made from sealed side-grain bamboo, metal trim/clamps, and removable plastic liners
Airtight lid for safe room-temperature food storage
I’ve been looking at designer pet beds for Bamboo
I keep stepping on him! He’s lying just in front of my feet, under my desk. So sometimes I forget he’s right by my feet and I’ll kick him accidentally, as I shift around to find my comfort. It’s his new chill spot, and he seems to be comfortable sleeping here; however I know I’m going to step on and seriously injure him. I’d feel so bad if I did that, so I started searching the web for a guffly dog bed to put in the corner of my office.
I found one in Ella Vickers’ recycled sailcloth collection. The dog bed is made from old sailboat sails and look sweet. It seems like all I’ll have to do is place two king-sized pillows in the sail cloth and zip it up. Then Bamboo will have a comfortable and guffly place to chill. Knowing Bamboo, however, he’ll probably ignore his new bed and continue to annoy me by laying by my feet. He’s crazy like that.
With summer right around the corner, I’ve begun searching for some thong flip flops to keep my feet cool. I found a great pair at Simple Shoes.
Toe Foo flip flops are stylish and sustainable. They are made from crepe, which is a natural rubber that is tapped from the Havea tree. The website says that the material makes a squishy sole. The flip flops are also made from bamboo and hemp; and they are all bound together by water-based glue.
The Toe Foo summer flip flops are available in black, tan, and olive colors; and they cost $45 dollars. I’m going to get the black ones for my summertime chillaxing.
I’m a softy for animals. I regularly find myself feeling depressed after seeing a sad story on TV about an animal suffering. The only good part about this is that my dog Bamboo brings me more joy than I could ever express. That’s why I only buy him good stuff.
Last weekend I visited the Green Street Fair in Plymouth Michigan. At the event, I found a woman named Pam selling sustainable pet products. Her company Purrfect Play sells collars, leashes, chew toys, catnip toys, and pet bedding to name a few. However the one product that Purrfect Play sells that really got me excited–for Bamboo–was a wool ball, which is a dog ball toy.
Bamboo’s favorite thing in the world is a ball. He loves it so much that he’s completely submissive to the very sound of the word. In fact, whenever I really want him to listen, the only thing I have to do is yell “Ball”; his ears perk up and he’s at my feet waiting for a command (a trick that I try to use sparingly). He’s so addicted to his balls that he’ll stay up all night playing with them, if I were to let him. Bamboo has lots of balls, however he doesn’t have a wool dog ball. So I listened to Pam as she explained why I should buy one.
She told me that her balls are handmade from sustainably produced dye-free wool; which has only been processed with gentle non-toxic soaps. The wool is sustainable because it can be shorn from sheep annually, with no harm to the animal. It’s biodegradable and has less negative impact to the environment–and ourselves–than oil-based synthetics.
So I bought a ball and brought it home to Bamboo. He loved it! He’s been annoying me for the last few days with it, because he can’t put it down. Here’s a picture of him loving on it.
