We are geeked to have the Recycled Circuit Board Earrings on the Daily Guff today! They come to us from Jacob of Upcycled Jewelry. We totally dig the designs he is creating and are happy to support what he does.
Jacob owns and operates a business that manages bank owned or foreclosed properties. This involves rekeying houses, fixing things and total clean outs. In a given month, he can accumulate over 5,000 pounds of garbage!!! Every ounce of metal I separate to be recycled. All electronics, like TV’s, computers, faxes, etc., are taken apart and recycled if not in useable shape. We SO appreciate that he is trying his best to lessen the impact on our world and our community.
Hats off to you Jacob! We love these unique, lightweight eco-stylish earrings with a twist! Get a pair on the Daily Guff: http://guffly.com/

First we brought the ecofabulous Nut Blob Ring and you loved it! Now the edgier big sister, Chunky Ring comes to the Daily Guff from muichic (moo-ee-sheek) which brings Guffly natural, sustainable, and organic jewelry, which is designed and handmade in Columbia. Natural, sustainable and organic jewelry is music to our ears but once you look at the great pieces you will just have to have one in your collection – it’s eco-stylish to say the least!
Each of muichic’s pieces is made from Tagua nuts which are handmade into a botanical alternative to ivory (they call it vegetable ivory). What’s especially great about what they’re doing (as if you needed another reason) is stimulating the local economy in the region by providing an alternative to cutting down rainforests for farming!
Here’s what the tagua fruit looks like. Crazy to imagine that the nut inside is made into these great rings!

Each of the nuts used to make these rings has its own distinctive shape and grain. The grain is highlighted by the use of all natural dyes. Each of these rings is one of a kind! The team here at Guffly is wowed by muichic’s efforts to create something very stylish while being incredible conscious of the product’s environmental impact. Get the eco-friendly complement to any outfit with the Chunky Ring on the Daily Guff: http://guffly.com

Hey Amanda of The Andean Collection! Thanks for bringing us the Classic Tagua Bracelets to feature on the Daily Guff!
Amanda founded The Andean Collection in fall 2008 while she was in Ecuador researching rural women’s survival strategies when dealing with poverty as her master thesis. Determined to make more of a difference than a paper could – she stayed in Ecuador longer to find disadvantaged artisans, training them, and helping them fortify their supply chains. The company brings us fashion forward, eco-friendly, and fair trade jewelry and we LOVE it!
Here’s some info about this awesome company:
Fair Trade
Fair trade in artisan products means ensuring that producers and everyone along the supply chain has good working conditions, a decent wage, and a realistic path out of poverty. Given the inherent low education level of poor producers, fair trade for us also means going beyond and helping artisans lead a better life. We do this through an annual survey of our producers in which we learn more about their lives, the problems they face on a daily basis, and taking action to help them combat these difficulties.
Tagua
The Tagua nut comes from the Ecuadorean Ivory Palm, whose scientific name is Phytelephas aequatorialis or “plant elephant”, and which flourishes in the lowlands of South America. The medium-sized palm, reaching up to 60 feet tall, grows quickly and easily in shady, humid places hidden below larger trees. The tagua nut is collected from large pods emerging from the palm’s trunk. These regenerative pods can be harvested by climbing the tree or collected later once they fall to the forest floor. Harvested early, tagua is a soft fruit resembling the inner fruit of a coconut and can be eaten. Harvested later, tagua is white and extremely hard, and has come to be known as “vegetable ivory” because of its amazing ability to be carved and polished. Tagua is a perfect natural material for making beads, buttons, and figurines; before the age of plastic, tagua was used to produce large quantities of buttons for world markets. Whether hand-dyed into a wide spectrum of colors or left in a more natural state, the versatility of this nut makes it a unique addition to any jewelry piece.
You may have heard news recently about The Andean Collection because people are loving the sophisticated style of this eco friendly jewelry – this isn’t the hippie stuff for sure! These make great accessories and gifts from the Daily Guff: http://guffly.com

The fun earrings you see on the Daily Guff today come to us from Kathy who is a full time artist in Pennsylvania. After graduating from college with a painting major and art history minor, Kathy knew she had to start her own full-time art business – we’re glad she did! By using the techniques she learned in her jewelry metal classes and her mad artistic skills she uses everyday materials to create masterpieces.
Not only does she recycle the products from her life but she gets donations from family and friends of all kinds of materials for her to create her eco-stylish products. She even reuses packing material and food boxes for her product packaging – our sample came in a handmade box that was once for waffles!
Thank you Kathy for creating not only funky but eco friendly products! We appreciate your approach to recycling, reuse and minimizing waste. Get your one of a kind pair of earrings on the Daily Guff: http://guffly.com/

These totally fabulous fair trade Coconut Disc Earrings come to the Daily Guff from Fair Industry. This company is (get this!) a woman-owned, volunteer-supported fair trade enterprise based in Princeton, New Jersey. How sweet it that?! The founder and designer, Lauren, has a desire to create stylish yet ethical clothing with inspirations drawn from the growing fair trade movement. Totally Guff material.
The people who make Fair Industry’s fair trade clothing and jewelry are paid a fair wage, receive advance payments for raw materials and work in safe, healthy environments. All products are sweatshop-free, and nothing is mass-produced. We know Lauren works hard with the artisans of the Bombolulu workshops of Mombasa, Kenya, which was founded to create employment for people with physical disabilities.
At Guffly, we think that companies like this should be at the forefront and the big box stores with their mass-produced stuff shouldn’t have a stronghold in today’s society. The sad part is, they do and chances are most of the clothes you’re wearing right now aren’t fair trade because it’s not necessarily an easy thing to find. By teaming with companies like Fair Industry, Guffly seeks to change this. We think that anyone can be eco-friendly, fair trade savvy, vegan, eco chic (whatever you want to call it) without having to compromise their sense of style.
Make a change and score some beautifully made earrings in the process. Shop the Daily Guff at www.guffly.com
